Bright Starts 14 Days of Laughter Giveaway

***CONTEST CLOSED - THANK TO ALL WHO ENTERED - HILARIOUS STORIES!***

Hold on to your diaper bags ladies, this is a big one!

Bright Starts strives to develop innovative, high quality baby products that are affordable. When I buy products for Jane, I definitely want good "stuff" but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for it - knowing that in 6 months she'll probably have outgrown it. In the meantime, however, anything that helps make my life easier for any length of time is worth the expense!

Not only does Bright Starts have reasonably priced products but the new InGenuity Line combines the latest innovations in baby gear with fabulously styled products that will actually coordinate with your home decor (unless you love primary colours and have bright blue and green walls)! It only makes sense for companies to start designing baby products that are both functional and attractive... duh! :p

I was given the opportunity to try out the InGenuity Playard - I know, lucky me, right? Honestly, part of me would love to save myself an hour right now and just say "buy it" end of sentence, end of post. However, it's probably best if I tell you why I would...

I try to buy mid to high quality baby products, with the hope that it will last through two babies. However, I regret that I bought a cheap-o playard... I was disappointed with it from day one but am even more mad at myself after experiencing the InGenuity.

I am such a big fan of this product. My favourite feature is the Sleep Easy Incline. I wrote about my want for an inclined sleeping surface back in August in a Tips-N-Tricks post discussing my concern and frustration about laying Jane down flat to sleep after a big feed (made no sense to me). The InGenuity Playard bassinet has two options - baby can lie completely flat or with a slight (10 degree) incline, which is the default setting (see picture below). This is genius to me. I wish I had bought this playard instead of my cradle! Add in the fact that there's a change station and now I'm just grouchy that I didn't save myself some dough by getting the InGenuity playard ($99) vs. buying a separate cradle ($130) and playard ($100)! Even though Jane's too big for the bassinet now (good to 15 lbs), the change station is good to 25 lbs and saves me forty-five trips up the stairs to change diapers during the day. It's also got really high sides so it keeps my "little wiggler" in place, a task that's hard to do now that she wants to crawl away anytime she's laid down.

What else rocks about the bassinet? You don't have to remove it in order to fold up the playard. GENIUS! I had to do this for my other playard and it's a pain. Plus, without this feature, you're left having to find a place to put the bassinet and, if you're traveling, you have to pack it in a suitcase (vs. the travel case that comes with the playard) - trust me, there is not enough room for an extra pair of panties when you're traveling with your baby, let alone a bassinet!

Our new playard is set up in my tv room. With Jane crawling and being so active now, I can no longer let her out of my sight for a second while I grab something from another room. This is where the playard is key. I've left a few toys in there so that when I need to dash somewhere I just plop Jane down and go - without worrying I'll find her climbing the bookshelf when I return.

If I haven't sold you on how fabulous this playard is at this point, then I'd probably have to tell you it changes diapers for you and does the dishes to make you want it and, lets face it, Dan barely changes diapers some days so keep dreaming ladies. I am telling all my pregnant friends to pick this one up - it has way too many new and convenient features.

The InGenuity line has three other awesome products -
The Automatic Bouncer - Do I need to say Hallelujah again? That's right, AUTO. MATIC. BOUNCER.
The Cradle and Sway Swing - Like the "old school" models, this swing can go side-to-side (which Jane LOVES) or front to back.
The Portable Swing - a dream for parents, who like me, had babies who would only nap in the swing when they were newbies.

Ready for the exciting part...

the best part of mommyhood is the free pass to mommy-brain! i have had so many questionable insanity mommy moments, dare i confess to any of them?? but for the sake of winning great prizes from Bright Starts, I will share! My most prized mommy-brain moment came on a beautiful spring day last year when I was rushing my darling children out the door to load up in our lovely oster the toaster shaped van! I myself felt put together that day, make up being applied, matching shoes, and was sure it was to be a fabulous day! All was ready to go, children belted in car seats, music playing! As I ran back to check that I had in fact locked the front door, I pulled a tube of chap stick out to apply. I remembered taking it from my daughter earlier that morning because she had a tendency to eat it rather than apply to the lip region! I applied it rather quickly rubbing it around and around my lips to coat them and jammed the cap on stuffing it back into my pocket. As I came around the side of the van however, I happened to catch a glimpse of my reflection in the side window. I had to do a double take because I wasn't quite sure what I saw, but hopping into the van and peering into the mirror confirmed it all. There, staring back at me in the review mirror was a mommy with bright red chap stick smeared all over and I do mean ALL over my lips...It was up around the smile corners of my mouth, up above my lips in that little place between your nose and mouth...I was a complete mess...I wish i had a photo of how hysterical I looked because I started laughing so hard I could hardly catch my breath. Of course my kiddos were just staring at me like I indeed HAD lost my brain! The funny thing was that when I applied the chap stick I never paid attention to the fact that I was using a different chap stick other than my plain Burts Bees! Also, somehow I never even felt that it was all around my mouth and not just on my lips...I MUST have been too oblivious to the fact that I finally felt like a cool hip mom that day! :)But nonetheless, I am glad I found it before I headed off to my destination and some other dear soul pointed it out! To date that has been my favorite mom moment!

Well I wrote a whole post about it but my genious mommy moment recently:
We had a nice peaceful morning, got out of bed, got some breakfast- the usual nummy Nutramigen bottle, hung out with the sting ray on the couch, chatted and played, watched some tv. Great morning, but I couldn't figure out why he wouldn't go to sleep after his typical hour and a half of wake time. So I scooted him back up in the Boppy to give him his pacifier and oh... my.... gosh.... there was a pool of pee the size of a dinner plate underneath him!!

Um yes, yours truly, Mom of the YEAR, forgot the whole CHANGE the diaper part of the morning routine!!! ::::slaps forehead:::: you've got to be kidding me, I totally forgot to change him when we woke up before giving him his bottle. And this goes to show you that my child could care less if he has pee in his hair and poop up to his ears, he doesn't complain! So I have to be diligent about changing him on a schedule rather than waiting for him to fuss because he's wet himself. I mean the kid was sopping wet, onesie completely drenched, sweat pants that could be rung out, socks soaked... and he was just happily playing with the sting ray.

wow.... my mom brain moment would have to be when (I can't think of anything that is all that funny) I did the typical milk in the cubord instead of the fridge, gave baby my bottle of soda instead of bottle, dressed baby without a diaper on.... simple mommy brain farts. lol... ok, its kinda funny to me.

Best mommy brain moment? I would have to say that being a stay at home mom with 3 children under the age of 3 has to be based on a routine! I did however, get a chance to go shopping by myself the other day. Unfortunately, in the middle of shopping, I looked down, and realized that my children were nowhere in sight! I totally freaked out, and ran thru the store, ran out to my car, called my husband..... and yeah, I really enjoyed my child-free day.

My son is still very young so I don't have any real funny stories...yet, but I do have a great story from my first adventures of mommyhood...before I was a mommy! I was a nanny for almost 3 years before I got married and the little boy (we'll call him M) I took care of was 3 and the converstaion he had with his Nana one day is one I will never forget...and never stop laughing at:
M: Nana, I like your hair.
Nana: Why, Thank you!
M: But not your face!
From the mouth of babes...sometimes a bit too honest!

Oh wow, there have been SO many!! And of course I would have Mommy brain this morning and am having a hard time thinking of one! :) One thing that I have not let go of his putting "my face on" in the morning. Now that I'm a SAHM, I still want to look somewhat decent you know?? Anyway there is an instance where I put my face on, only I forgot to do 1 eye. So I had been walking around all day (and of course my lil one didn't recognize) with 1 eye completely missing mascara. Had I not looked in the mirror all day?? Anyway back to the embarrassment! So after hubby came home, I said I'm off to do a store run (great deal on something I was going after) and off I went. At the store, I can't seem to locate what I'm looking for so I ask for help. The person keeps glancing at one side of my face, but I just go on about my business, check out and realize that person is looking at me a bit odd. I get in the car, pull down my visor and wha-la I have beautiful lashes on 1 eye and hardly any on the other. LOL! How embarrassing!! And hubby didn't even recognize either. I know have a routine of checking myself in the mirror (closely) before leaving the house. :) Jenprincess88 at aol dot com

The funniest moment lately was:
we are potty training my daughter and she pooped in her undies. So I said "Rose, what happened, why didn't you tell mommy you had to go potty?" She replied "It's okay mommy, my undies will eat the poop"

very interesting...

I think my funniest mommy brain moment is when I was running around, running late for a doctors appointment. I got the toddler all bundled up and ready to go. I got the baby all bundled, ready to go, put in her carseat (carrier) and grabbed the diaper bag. I took the toddler to the car along with the diaper bag. Got her bucked in, ran back to the porch, locked the door, got in the car, started it, and then the toddler says to me "Where's baby sister?"

yeah -- I forgot the baby. I think I seriously would have backed out of the driveway too if I hadn't been reminded.

One the most memorable mommy brain moments that I can recall (hence, having mommy brain also drains your memory from remembering!) occurred during the first week as a mommy with my daughter. Through all of the chaos of adjusting to motherhood, my two best friends were in town to visit. We decided to head out for the first time with baby in tow...because they were here to help I was able to squeeze in a shower, brush my teeth, comb my hair AND put on some make-up (all of which never occurred prior to their visit thanks to my little bundle of joy). As we headed out the door, I was going over the check list of things I needed in the diaper bag...diapers - check, bib - check, change of clothes - check, wipes - check...out we headed. As we climbed in the car and got all loaded up...I happened to glance down and busted out in laughter! I had done sooooo well getting ready for the first time that I had walked right out of the house without shoes on. No shoes, no shirt, no service...luckily I discovered this mommy moment prior to pulling out of the driveway! :)

My mommy brain moment came after the birth of my 2nd child. I was taking her to her first pediatrician's appointment and of course had to fill out the reams of paperwork they had for me. I filled out the entire set of paperwork with my son's name!! Oh, but it only gets better! Both of my children's names start with an "A" and when they brought my error to my attention, I could not for the life of me remember my new daughter's name!!! So there I am, standing at the receptionist's desk with a line of mommies waiting behind me and I could not come up with her name for I kid you not, a good 2 minutes! So embarassing!!!

I have had so many MoMmy Brain moments since becoming a mommy 3 and a 1/2 years ago. Okay, so maybe some are not MoMmy Brain moments but rather me just not thinking - but I like being able to blame it on MoMmy Brain. :) I had my 3rd baby in October and my MoMmy Brain moments have seemed to increase. Just this morning I had a wonderful MoMmy Brain story typed up to post on here and I have no clue where it went. (If you get 2 post from me, you know why.) I have the "little MoMmy Brain" moments daily - calling a child by the wrong name - when the baby is crying I find myself saying "C, it's okay" while comforting him - his name is "I". I have left the house many times forgetting something - diapers, wipes, cups, bottles, bags - when the baby was just a few weeks old, I left him. I got to the end of our road (less then a mile), looked in the rear view mirror and realized his seat was not in the car. I turned the car around and went home to find baby "I" sleeping soundly in his seat sitting on our bed where I left him. I have fought with putting diapers on my children for several minutes before realizing the diaper was too small or too big - "D" and "C" wear size 5 diapers, "I" wears size 2. Then there was the time I was filling out some paperwork and could not remember how to spell "C's" middle name and had to refer to his sicial security card and the time I was filling out the church attendance card and forgot how to spell "I's" name and had to ask my husband. The "little MoMmy Brain" moments could go on and on. I will spare you all those and share with you my last "big MoMmy Brain" moment - the ones where someone else besides my husband and myself get a laugh. "D" takes his lunch to school everyday. I made some mac and cheese for "D" for lunch, I put the mac and cheese along with grapes and cookies in the cute little divided plate, put the lid on it and put the plate in "D's" lunch box. In my attempt at being organized I decided to fix "C's" plate as well. I put mac and cheese, etc. in another cute little divided plate and put the lid on it and put it in the frig. I then put the left over mac and cheese in a container and put it in the frig. Flash foward about 4 hours -lunch time-I searched the frig for "C's" plate-literally taking everything out of the frig. I could not find "C's" plate. I called my husband-he knew nothing. Flash forward a couple of hours - time to pick "D" up. "D's" teacher (also a friend) was laughing. I had put "D's" plate in his lunch box, I had put "C's" plate in "D's" lunch box and I had put the container with the left over mac and in cheese in "D's" lunch box. How did I put ALL the containers in "D's" lunch box without noticing? MOMMY BRAIN!

My Mommy stories are only funny to me since my daughter is only 7 months old. But I do have an entertaining kid story that happened to me yesterday. My MIL is a kindergarten teacher, so my daughter and I went to her class to read a book for March is Reading month. I choose Lost in the Woods, a story about a fawn and his mother. After the story the kids asked some questions. I was able to answer them fairly easily, until a little girl asked, "How does the fawn get out of the Mommy's tummy?" I can only imagine the look of horror on my face. I just didn't even know what to say! Luckily my MIL jumped in and said, "Why don't you ask you Mom and Dad that question when you get home?" The little girl said "Ok!" and all was well.

Oh boy, mamabrain. My daughter was potty training, I was learning to cook. My husband had just brought home new arm chairs for the livingroom. I was on top of things with my daughter, potty on the hour every hour. Then I started to cook. 2 hours later I heard an Uh-oh! I screamed and ran into the livingroom. There was my beautiful little girl with wet down both legs standing on the new chair! I stripped her and showered her off in the bath. Then, getting new undies on her I raced into the livingroom to strip the cushion cover and wash it quick. I raced to the bathroom and knocked over a glass pitcher in the kitchen. Shattering all over the floor, I dropped the cushion and grabbed the broom. I just had it all cleaned up when I heard a crash in the livingroom. I tripped over the cushion and faceplanted on the livingroom floor in a pile of mud. My beautiful darling had knocked over the newly watered houseplant on the other chair. We were all covered in mud, as was the chair. At that moment my neighbor walked in to pick up her daughter and the door handle fell off. We laughed so hard I had to race to the bathroom!

I've had so many mommy brain moments and my current mommy brain isn't remembering them haha. One that comes to mind...I have a 2 year old and a 2 month old. After having my baby I was very sleep deprived. I fianlly got..ahhhh...A SHOWER! An accomplishment for many new moms! I was standing under the steaming hot water SO enjoying my shower. I washed my hair and put conditioner...All over my face. Yes I was standing there loving every minute of my shower when I realized I was massaging hair conditioner all over my face. I was just glad to have a shower who cares what I was rubbing on my face!

I have a million mommy brain moments a day, I am forever going downstairs for something, get down there, grab a snack, go back upstairs and realize I forgot to get what I had originally gone downstairs for. I do this at least 5 times a day. But all that up and down the stairs paired with breastfeeding has got to burn some major calories, right!?

Every mommy has that one time (Yes, admit it our kids will eat poop once in their lifetime).

Orion, my oldest was my easiest child. He hardly cried, never had colic and always behaved (Really he could actually sit through an entire movie in the theaters, watch it and NEVER cry!) I never had any challenges with him because he never put me through tough challenges. Until one morning...one lovely morning.

Headed out to work early because I was needed at a early shift at the daycare center I worked for, I had his uncle watch him when he woke up instead of taking him with me. Oh what a challenge he put his Uncle though!

Uncle "Coney" came into the living room where Orion was sleeping in his playpen, or so he had thought...

Not only did Orion wake up early, he decided to immense himself in feces. He was really playing with it and eating it.

Completely grossed out his uncle was stuck to give him a bath and wash out his mouth! Orion decided to give us the surprise of doing something "off the wall" (We were NEW parents too!)when he was left with his uncle!

When my son was about 3 months old he had one of those cases of explosive diarrhea - not fun. I got him all undressed and into the tub which promptly overflowed wetting the entire bottom of my PJ bottoms (yes, I was still in my pj's in the middle of the day). After I got him all cleaned up I lifed him up and he proceeded to vomit all the way down the back of my shirt. So, I took off my shirt, again focusing on the baby, not myself. It was only then that heard the front door open and my sister came in with the CABLE MAN, who had just pulled up to adjust some random cable issue. So there I was in my bra and underpants, with a naked baby and my sister, and of course the cable man. It was incredible embarrasing, but a good story.

I love how you say funniest momy brain moment. Clearly expecting we have multiple of them. Hee, hee.

The topper for me was last year near the end of the school year. Promise not to laugh. How about coming home from a trip with the boys from the country. I was miles from anywhere, the boys were sleeping so I pulled over on the side of the road. Next day I was itchy as hell. I forgot what poison ivy looked like and my rear end was covered in it. Yeah, that was fun. Johnny felt the need to tell e.v.e.r.y.o.n.e.

We just moved into our house last year and my husband had just started his new job. My son and I were going to meet him for an impromtu lunch at a nearby diner so, I quickly dressed my son, got the diaper bag, his fox in socks, and my purse. With my arms loaded, I opened the front door, locked it by hand and started walking to the car. As we made it to the car, I strapped my son it, reached in my purse and NO keys! What? I searched again. No keys! My 2 yr old has a tendency to take my keys and hide them in random places. I supposed he had done it again. Now, I thought, how can I break in to my house? lol! First I used a debit card to try and pop the front door open for about 10 minutes, but no luck. Then, I tried the back door. Then, I thought maybe I could somehow lift the garage or flip a switch through the garage doggie door. No luck! In the meantime, I am really surprised the cops weren't called as the neighbors saw some new strange woman trying to break into a house. :) I finally went to the back porch again, pulled the screen off the window and luckily the window was unlocked! Oh, did I mention I was 6 months pregnant??? So, my big belly and I used a patio chair to squeeze through the window onto the kitchen counter! Where did I find my keys, you ask? In the refridgerator, of course!! I never leave the house now without keys in hand for fear of this happening... and my next door neighbors have yet to come over and introduce themselves to the strange new lady on the block. lol

I cannot recall a truly funny mommy brain moment as it relates to me. But a friend of mine had a truly mommy brain moment when her child was about eight months old. she had nursed her child and was sitting with him on the couch when the doorbell rang. She set the baby down, and went to the door to open it. In front of her was the UPS guy. She recalls him looking at her a little strange, but he asked her to sign for the package which she did. He handed the package to her and then turned to leave, and made one last backward glance. She thought this a bit odd. After setting the package down she went into the bathroom where she saw herself in the mirror and realized that the flap on her nursing top was wide open. She had given the UPS guy quite the little show.

I think I have mommy brain right now because I can't even think. But I do know that one time I was sitting on the couch pumping milk as usual and the doorbell rang. Well little man was alseep so I jumped up to answer and didn't even realize that I answered the door with the horns still attached to me. The tubes of course pulled out. Luck the UPS man had already started walking away and didn't look back. He was just ringing the bell and leaving the package at the door. I was lucky this time, but let me tell you I often opened pulled out of the pump not realizing it.
